How it works
From question to source.
Every answer that uses data shows that data and where it came from.
The steps
- You ask a question in your own words.
- An AI model, Claude by Anthropic, works out what the question needs and which official source can answer it.
- KnowCivics fetches the data from that source when you ask: for example the latest figures from FRED, candidate filings from the Federal Election Commission, or your congressional district from the Census Bureau.
- You get a short answer, a card with the data itself, and a link to the source. Numbers come from the source, not from the model’s memory.
Things to keep in mind
- AI models can misread or misstate data. The card and the source link let you check.
- Candidate lists come from FEC filings. They include people who lost a primary or withdrew, so they are not the ballot.
- Polls are shown one by one as each pollster published them. KnowCivics does not average them or say who is ahead.
- District lines were redrawn in some states. When the district you vote in next differs from the one that elected your current representative, the answer says so.
- If no official source has the answer, KnowCivics says so instead of guessing.
