About

Evidence for citizens.

KnowCivics answers questions about US civics, economics, law and policy in plain language, using official sources you can check yourself.

What it does

Ask a question such as “What is the unemployment rate?” or “Who represents my address?” KnowCivics looks up the answer in an official source, shows you the data, and links to where it came from. It is free and has no ads or accounts.

Principles

  • Official sources only. Government agencies, central banks, statistics offices and a small number of named publishers. No blogs, think tanks or advocacy groups. See Sources.
  • Live data, not memory. Numbers that change over time, such as prices, rates and who holds an office, are looked up when you ask.
  • Facts apart from opinions. Settled facts are stated plainly. On questions people disagree about, KnowCivics gives the strongest case for each side without picking one.
  • Nonpartisan. Candidates are listed alphabetically, never ranked by money or polls, and no party is shown in a color.
  • Short and plain. A direct answer first. Ask a follow-up for more.

What it is not

KnowCivics is not legal, financial or voting advice. Answers are written by an AI model, which can make mistakes, so check the linked source before you rely on a number. For official election information, such as registration, deadlines and where to vote, contact your state or local election office or visit vote.gov.
